Fireplaces and Fireplace Accessories

The debate has been raging for years:  gas vs. wood burning fireplaces.  Fireplaces have always

been used for heat, for good feelings, and for a place to gather for a cozy night.  So what makes a fire great?  The labor of chopping wood to use as fuel, or the ease of simply flipping a switch and having that friendly glow illuminate your living room?  Of course, there are pros and cons to each, but how does a person choose between them?

 Gas Fireplaces

Convenience is the number one reason why people choose gas-burning fireplaces, these days, however, they do hold many other purposes.  For starters, gas-burning fireplaces will burn for as long as there is fuel in the reservoir tanks.  This allows you to enjoy the warm glow of your fire for hours upon hours without a single interruption—no adding wood or stirring ashes.

Gas-burning fireplaces are usually more sleek and elegant than wood-burning fireplaces.  They offer great usability, with easy-to-use instruments, as well as top of the line safety features.  These fireplaces allow you to enjoy all of the benefits of a wood fire, without the mess and hassle.

When you purchase a gas-burning fireplace, you have the option to choose preferences that suit your style and taste, including the level of intensity for the fire as well as the height and width.  You have choices as to how to set up your fireplace’s control knobs.  Gas-burning fireplaces use a set of knobs to control the turning on and off of the fire as well as how intense the fire is.

You should also consider the amount of warmth circulation that gas-burning fireplaces provide.  They are great for spreading their warmth over a large area, using a set of fans that are found at the back, sending that heat out toward the rest of the area.  The money you spend on fuel is then distributed throughout the rest of your room.

Remember that gas-burning fireplaces are energy rated, so you can choose the most efficient fireplace for you, for the price that fits your budget.

Wood Fireplaces

Whether your idea of a perfect fire is cuddling in front of a warm fire or reading the paper in the evening after a long day of work, a wood-burning fireplace is a great choice for you.  If you live in an area that receives freezing temperatures, then you understand the sheer magnificence of curling up in your favorite pair of sweat pants with a cup of warm cocoa or tea and enjoying a nice night of cozy warmth with the inviting flames of your wood fire.  The sounds of the crackling wood, the blaze of the dancing flames, all in the setting of your own fireplace.

If you are a lover of traditional living, of the elegance and luxuriousness of beautiful, large fireplaces, using natural wood, then you are a wood-burning fireplace person.  You get the satisfaction of building your own fire and keeping it going.  Of course, as comfortable as these fireplaces are, they come at a higher price than gas-burning fireplaces.

Because of the immensity of the construction process for wood-burning fireplaces, the installation is usually much more expensive than gas-burning fireplaces.  They are so elegant, though, that the price may be worth the construction.  If the warmth, welcoming flickering, and essence of a wood fire is something you desire, then this is the way to go.
